In its simple yet elegant prose, Natsume Sōseki tells a tale of a solitary old man and a young university student whom he befriends. Throughout the book, readers often come face to face with the cloud of depression that hangs over the old man, seemingly due to some mysterious event that has happened in his past. Yet any curiosity regarding this matter, as culminated in the young university student's perspective, can only grow. It is only towards the end of the book does the author reveal the cause of this mysterious event. But be prepared for the emotions will speak to the depths of our hearts and leave us contemplating our own perspective of our world.
